A Message from the Ambassador
Welcome to the Official Website of the Embassy of the Republic of Mozambique to the United States.
Located centrally by the DuPont Circle, the Embassy is your point of contact and information on Mozambique.
I am privileged to lead a small but very committed and dedicated team of diplomats and support staff who are here to represent the government and people of Mozambique. This team and I are here to serve you, to answer your questions, to facilitate you travel to Mozambique whether in business, visit to family and friends or to enjoy the wonders, culture and history of this beautiful country.
Mozambique is open for business with great returns on investment. The Mozambican economy is one of the fastest growing in Africa, and a new global province of natural gas. However, the economic growth in the past decade has been driven by other sectors, namely agriculture energy, tourism, fisheries, solid minerals, transport and communications and infrastructure development. The geostrategic location of the country makes Mozambique the vital gateway to the sea for the countries of the Southern African region. These factors, combined with sound macroeconomic policies and an enabling environment for investment, have made Mozambique one of the top destinations for foreign direct investment in Africa.
With a coastline of 2700 km on the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Mozambique offers not only great white sand pristine beaches and paradisiacal islands but also great fishery resources which have given fame to the country’s sea food. A good combination of coastal tourism, wildlife and conservation as well as historical sites, including the UNESCO world heritage site, Ilha de Moçambique (Mozambique Island), which was the first capital of the country, attract visitors from all over the world, including the Unites States. Mozambique is indeed a new tourism destination of choice.
The United States and Mozambique enjoy excellent relations, which are translated into regular diplomatic contacts at the highest level, good levels of development cooperation and growing business partnerships. It is within this framework that Mozambique and the United States of America, recently, signed the II Compact in the amount of $500 million which will be capital for critical infrastructural investments in Mozambique.
I avail myself of this opportunity to convey warm greetings to all and an open invitation to visit the Embassy and Mozambique.
Thank you for your attention and interest in Mozambique!
